History

According to traditional Mexican etiquette, placing a handbag on the floor

is believed to bring bad luck as they are “kissed by the devil”!

Stylish and practical, freestanding perches used for guests' handbags, umbrellas

and jackets, quickly became a symbol of attentiveness and care.

Since the 1950’s, Percheros, have been a hallmark of Mexican restaurants and hotels.

By the 1980s, they were in all types of eateries, from cozy fondas to upscale restaurants,

evolving from handcrafted iron and wood, to sleeker, more modern materials.

Before even placing their order,  guests often ask for a perchero to hang personal items!

At AME Designs, we proudly carry this Mexican tradition forward, reimagining the Perchero

for today’s spaces with minimalist lines, long-lastiing materials, and timeless appeal.
